Combat sports fans are in for quite the treat on July 29th.
The boxing world erupted in applause on Thursday as the news broke of the highly-anticipated clash between Terence Crawford and Errol Spence. After months of back-and-forths between the two sides, and fight negotiations hitting a lull, the two top boxers will collide in the ring.
Around the same time on July 29th, former UFC lightweight title challengers Dustin Poirier and Justin Gaethje will square off for the ‘BMF’ title at UFC 291 in Salt Lake City. It is a rematch of a 2018 ‘Fight of the Year’ contender in which Poirier earned a late-round finish.
UFC 291 and Crawford vs. Spence will spoil fight fans with a pair of upper-tier mid-summer events.

Crawford returns after retaining the WBO welterweight title against David Avanesyan last December. He is 39-0 in his boxing career with recent wins over Shawn Porter and Kell Brook.
Spence is 28-0 and will return after more than a year away from the ring. He hasn’t fought since a TKO victory over Yordenis Ugás to retain the WBC and IBF welterweight straps.
Poirier vs. Gaethje isn’t the only explosive matchup at UFC 291. A light heavyweight matchup between former UFC champions Jan Blachowicz and Alex Pereira will feature as the co-main event in an important fight for the division.
The summer is always an exciting time to watch fights, and July 29th could be a day that combat sports fans will remember forever.
