It’s been almost six months since UFC lightweight prospect Paddy Pimblett was last seen inside the Octagon, and his entry into a lengthy recovery period on the sidelines came with a less than desirable final memory.
At UFC 282, the year-ending pay-per-view for 2022, Pimblett faced his stiffest test to date in the form of Jared Gordon. While “The Baddy” had quickly dispatched his three previous opponents, that wasn’t to be the case with “Flash.”
After a competitive three rounds in Las Vegas, many expected Gordon to have his hand raised, stalling the rise of Pimblett in the process. Instead, all three judges scored the contest in favor of the former Cage Warriors champion.
The reaction to the result, however, certainly hasn’t seen it treated as a victory for the Liverpool native, whose hype has taken a significant hit in the eyes of many after the controversial verdict.
But while that’s something that Pimblett acknowledges, he fully expects to get the fanbase back onside when he makes his comeback.
Pimblett: ‘You’re Only As Good As Your Last Fight & I Looked Sh*t’
During a recent video uploaded to his YouTube channel, Pimblett provided an update on his ongoing recovery from ankle surgery.
Having had his protective boot removed and returned to light activity in the gym, “The Baddy” is hoping to fit his return in before the end of the calendar year. And when he does make his way back to the cage, Pimblett knows he has a point to prove.
“I can’t wait (to return). I’m hoping to fight before the end of the year to be honest, kick some little fart’s head in” Pimblett said. “I was sh*t in my last fight, lad. It was a bad performance. I’ve said it myself, you’re only as good as your last fight and I looked shit. But when I come back, everyone will be sucking my arse again.”
While his surge up the lightweight ladder took a hit last time out, Pimblett will hope to get back on track in his comeback fight by delivering the kind of performance that saw him record back-to-back submission wins on home soil in 2022.
Pimblett also won’t be short on viable options when it comes to an opponent, with numerous names interested in sharing the cage with the charismatic Liverpudlian. That includes ranked contender Matt Frevola, who called Pimblett out following his knockout victory over Drew Dober at UFC 288 last month.
